The countries around the world are adopting strict quarantine measures to reduce the transmission of coronavirus. Restricted options of public transports have made it difficult for people to commute, even in case of emergencies. While people are being advised to stay at home and not go out of the house; in some cases it is unavoidable. 

So should you travel by car during this time? Here is what you should know. 

How safe is it to travel by car?

As compared to public transport, it is much safer to take your car out for a grocery run or if you have somewhere urgent to be. You are less likely to come in contact with other people. You can also take the necessary precautions to keep your car clean and sanitized. If you are taking other family members along, make sure you wipe your door handles, steering wheels and touchscreen display as well. Use disinfectants to wipe these surfaces. 

Precautions to take while traveling by car 

Here is the list of precautions that you should take if you are planning to travel by car:

  • Wash your hands before and after your trip 
  • Carry a sanitizer with you 
  • Avoid touching surfaces once you get out of your car 
  • Maintain at least 2-meter distance from people 
  • Avoid going out frequently if you are above 70 and have any underlying health conditions 

Here are some precautions that you can take to keep yourself safe. You can also wear masks and gloves. You should also take your car out at least once a week to maintain its battery.
