Mon is a district of Nagaland and is a jubilant place to discover. In Nagaland, you get to feel the rich tribal heritage and the state is an ethnic paradise. It is the home to the Konyak Nagas and is situated in the northeastern part of Nagaland.  It is located at an altitude of 897.64m above sea level. There are many places in Nagaland that can be travelled and is a wonderful destination for nature lovers.

Longwa

The most interesting thing about Longwa is that people here enjoy dual citizenship, one of India and the other one of Myanmar.  They do not need a visa to travel all around as they can move freely. Many have their kitchen in Myanmar and bedrooms in India. It is Amazing, isn’t it! This village is 42 km away from the main Mon town and also has many picturesque places. The Longwa village is governed by Angh, the village council chairman who has 60 wives.

Shangnyu

Shangnyu is one of the prominent villages situated in Mon which is also ruled by Angh. Though it has lower literacy rate, the village is known for its wooden monument that measures 8 feet in height and 12 feet in breadth. It is believed that the structure was built by heavenly angels.

Veda Peak

Veda peak is the highest peak of Nagaland. The Brahmaputra River of Assam and the Chindwin River of Myanmar can be viewed from this peak as it gives alluring views of the same. This peak has historic significance, as well as the British soldiers, are said to have planted their first opium plant here.

This village is again one of the interesting places to visit in Mon as it has the famous house of Angh, the ruler which has the skulls in showcasing and they are said to be of enemies he killed.  His house is the biggest one of the entire village.

Naganimora

Naganimora, famous for its panoramic views, is located on the banks of Dikhu River. The name that this village derives is from the word Naga Rani Mora means the ‘Burial place of the Naga Queen’. It is situated 11 km away from the Kongan village in Mon district.
