Recently the most beautiful and popular attraction of Paris, Notre Dame Cathedral caught an extensive fire. It is 850-year-old UNESCO world heritage landmark, and within minutes its spectacular Gothic spire collapsed as orange flames. The fire destroyed the roof and the spire of the medieval structure. Though the actual reason behind this miss happening is still not revealed but the good part is that no one got injured.
Paris fire brigade Chief Jean-Claude Gallet said “we can consider that the main structure of Notre-Dame has been saved and preserved” as well as the two towers.
This sudden occurrence has stunned everyone and is also disheartening for all the people in Paris as it was their most prestigious monument. “It is like losing a member of one’s own family,” said Pierre Guillaume Bonnet, a 45-year-old marketing director. “For me, there are so many memories tied up in it,” he further added.
Around 500 firefighters were gathered to settle down the fire and it took them almost 5 hours to do it. The president Emmanuel Macron has said that the Cathedral will be rebuilt and he also gave a statement “This is the place where we have lived all of our great moments, the epicenter of our lives,” he said. “It is the cathedral of all the French.”
Every year thousands of tourists used to visit this place and apart from this it also holds historical importance of the Kings and Queens from the 13th and 14th century. This site is emotionally connected to many people and the whole city is in grief thus, the President has assured that no body’s sentiments would be hurt and it will be constructed again.
