World is getting ready for Christmas, but today, i.e. December 22 is the date which is astrologically important and so for the people of Wiltshire too. People gather together in the Stonehenge in different costumes. Stonehenge is an antique monument in England that is often mentioned in the same gasp as the winter solstice. Some says that the monument could have been a graveyard from its earliest beginnings. While others say it’s a landmark for space aliens.
It is often said that Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus on December 25, just days after the solstice and many consider that the date of December 25 was selected to outshine the pagan celebrations of Saturnalia and Natalis Invicti. History also depicts that people go Stonehenge because of its alignment with the sun during the winter solstice. The midwinter sun sets between the two upright stones of the great Stonehenge. Moreover, the word Yule is used to portray the Christmas season and is supposed to come from the Norse word jol which refers to the winter solstice festival.
Theoretically, the solstice can occur any day from December 20 to December 23 for the reason that the calendars we use aren’t the same length as of a solar year. The winter solstice happens at the same time for everybody on the world and it symbolizes the accurate minute when the Northern Hemisphere is twisted at its farthest point away from the sun.
Today the estimated 7000 people dressed in unique attire made way to the ancient site believing that after witnessing the sun the days are going to get longer with the arrival of hope and rejuvenation.
