Recently the Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry Released the results for India Smart Cities Awards Contest (ISAC 2020) and we saw some surprising winners. For the result, the government studied cities under several parameters. These included social aspects, governance, culture, urban environment, sanitation, economy, built environment, water, urban mobility, sustainable business model, innovation in Covid-19 management, etc.
The winners were Surat and Indore for overall development. States were also awarded based on the holistic development of their cities wherein Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu won top spots.
As per the list the top nine performing cities which have been awarded a 4-star rating include Surat, Indore, Ahmedabad, Pune, Vijayawada, Rajkot, Visakhapatnam, Pimpri-Chinchwad and Vadodara.
Ahmedabad bagged the ‘Smart Cities Leadership Award’, followed by Varanasi and Ranchi. Other cities including: Chandigarh topped amongst the union territories. Indore won the ‘Innovative Idea Award’ for its ‘Carbon Credit Financing Mechanism’.
On Governance aspect-Vadodara, Thane and Bhubaneswar stood as the top-3 cities in the country. Kalyan-Dombivali and Varanasi won the Covid Innovation Award.
