If you are missing the hills of Dehradun, Nainital, and Mussoorie, there is one more reason for you to visit Uttarakhand: the tourism department is giving out discount coupons to tourists who check in to hotels and homestays across the state. This project aimed at improving the tourism in the Himalayan state comes with an INR 1,000 ‘Tourist Incentive Coupon’ for tourists for their accommodation, said Uttarakhand Tourism Minister Satpal Maharaj. This offer will come to effect in the next few days and will be applicable to tourists who make e-bookings for a three day stay in hotels or homestays.

“The tourists will be given the discount coupon while registering themselves on the government portal under the tourist category. They will then be able to use the coupon during their stay in a hotel or homestay in the tourist spots of the state,” said government officials.

The decision on the scheme was decided at a cabinet meeting. The government also resolved to refund tourists who made advance bookings at Jim Corbett Tiger Reserve, which is still closed due to COVID-19.

Uttarakhand gets a significant amount of revenue from tourists. This is one of the creative measures that other tourism-dependent economies are undertaking. Cancún in Mexico has been offering free stays. And the city of London was giving deep discounts to diners just to revive the restaurant industry.
